Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a medical therapy developed over 2000 years ago in Asia. Acupuncture stimulates specific points beneath the skin by the insertion of acupuncture needles. This process restores the balance of the body’s energy, also known as “Qi”(pronounced chi). Scientifically, acupuncture works by stimulation of precise points on the surface of the body, resulting in the release of the body’s own cortisone's, endorphins and infection fighting compounds resulting in relief of symptoms as well as treatment of the cause.
Acupuncture is setup at Animal Medical Clinic with an emphasis on the initial examination and consultation to establish expectations and goals for the patient. The owner is encouraged to be with their pet for the treatment and usually the treatment is very relaxing for the patient. The appointment will take 40 minutes. The treatment interval varies from once weekly to every other week or less, depending on the response to therapy. Successful response to treatment may occur immediately, or require several visits, since many diseases are chronic in nature.
